On June 15, the camp starts in the Kogatende area, which is north of the Serengeti. It will stay there until early November. Alex picked a great spot for his Kogatende camp that is only a few minutes from the Mara River. Many people think that crossing the Mara River is the best part of a Tanzanian trip. It’s hard to find a camp that feels more remote while still being so close to the action.

You can be very flexible with your adventure trip if you stay at Alex Walker’s Serian in both the North and South. People who stay at his place are told to spend as much time as possible in the bush. This is where he really sets the standard that other people are still trying to meet. At Serian, there are no set times for the adventure trips. Other cars will come and go during an all-day pass, but you can stay for as long or as short as you want! There are private cars for each group, and the price covers them.

The tents are big, with comfy beds (necessary after a long day of hiking!) and bathrooms right next to them that have flushing toilets and hot showers that you can ask for. As with any traveling tent camp, don’t expect excessive comfort. The atmosphere is more safari-like, and there is a small library in the main, stylish, and friendly area for everyone to use. The cooks make amazing food in a tiny kitchen, and they try to get as much of it as possible from local sources.

We don’t think there is another mobile tented camp that comes close to this one in terms of being fun, rewarding, comfortable, and relaxed all at the same time. It’s also one of our most favorite honeymoon spots in Tanzania.

When going on vacation in the Serengeti, one of the most important decisions you have to make is what kind of camp you want to stay in. There are some big differences between your mobile camps and hotels that stay put. The permanent cabins don’t move around all year and have more amenities, like swimming pools and hot tubs. This makes them great for families with kids who like to splash around in the cool water during the middle of the day, but they cost a lot more.

The Serengeti, on the other hand, is made up of mobile groups. There are permanent hotels all over Africa, but only in Tanzania can you find a camp that moves with the wildebeest migration. We love them! The fact that they move around makes them great value for money, and their movements put you in the best place to see the migration all year long. This is what makes East Africa so popular with tourists: mobile camps let you really get into nature and give you that real “Out of Africa” feel.

Any of Serian’s camps can be used on a typical Northern Tanzania circuit. The Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manayra National Park would be great places to start the trip. However, since Serian also has many camps in Kenya, combining both Kenya and Tanzania while staying at his camps is the best way to get great service, hospitality, and guidance the whole time.

After a thrilling trip with late nights and early mornings, there’s nothing better than taking it easy on the beaches of Zanzibar. Zanzibar is just a two-hour internal flight from the Serengeti and has a great mix of culture, great hotels, and great food to make your vacation or wedding perfect. The Breezes is a great deal for families, and Xanadu is a beautiful place to be on your honeymoon. Our favorite hotel on the island is Zuri. This hotel is great for couples or big families because it has a beach that doesn’t change with the tide, lots of swimming pools, and bars. It has everything you need to have a great day.
