&Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas
&Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas. What We Think. Serengeti under Canvas is one of the nicest mobile tented camps in the Serengeti. It is owned and run by &Beyond, which is one of the best safari companies in Tanzania for comfort and quality guides. The camp is always moving around to follow the movement. It is a small, cozy camp that stays mobile. Even though it comes with a bucket shower, this is still wild camping. But with all the fancy extras that &Beyond seems to add to all of their properties, you know this is a cut above.
There’s more to Serengeti Under Canvas than meets the eye.
During the Serengeti Safari, this tent camp moves around with the wildebeest to follow their movement. The camp is always close to an airstrip in the Serengeti, which makes it easy for light planes from other parts of north Tanzania to get there. You can really enjoy this huge part of the Serengeti and the migration if you stay at this camp for four nights.
The tent camp has six Meru-style tents arranged around two main mess tents in a style that is similar to other mobile camps in the area. There are, however, chandeliers, the softest cotton sheets, and bathrooms with big bucket showers inside these tents. They are made to a very high standard. That’s right, this is still camping, but it’s camping in the nicest way possible, with the best food and service. The usual &Beyond extras even let you connect to the internet from your tent.
Game drives in the Serengeti with the &Beyond 4×4 cars are the main thing to do at Serengeti under Canvas. You can be sure that the guides will be the best, and in some parts of the Serengeti, hot air balloon tours are possible, which are a great way to see wildlife from a different angle.
When going on vacation in the Serengeti, one of the most important decisions you have to make is what kind of camp you want to stay in. There are some big differences between your mobile camps and hotels that stay put. The permanent cabins don’t move around all year and have more amenities, like swimming pools and hot tubs. This makes them great for families with kids who like to splash around in the cool water during the middle of the day, but they cost a lot more.
The Serengeti, on the other hand, is made up of mobile groups. There are permanent hotels all over Africa, but only in Tanzania can you find a camp that moves with the wildebeest migration. We love them! The fact that they move around makes them great value for money, and their movements put you in the best place to see the migration all year long. This is what makes East Africa so popular with tourists: mobile camps let you really get into nature and give you that real “Out of Africa” feel.
The Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti are two of the most common places to visit in Northern Tanzania. If you like extravagant and luxurious living, then &Beyond’s main property, Crater Lodge, is a great fit for Serengeti Under Canvas. Because it has everything you could want, you will be treated like a king or queen.
We do tell you, though, that you should only stay here for two nights at most. Even though Crater Lodge is beautiful, there aren’t many things to do there. Hikes and trips to the local Maasai only take an afternoon or morning, so the Crater itself only takes one day of safari. It’s not very big, and while it’s great for seeing animals, the people can get annoying. The Serengeti is a better place to spend more time.
There are a lot of deals to be had when going on safari, whether you’re with a big group, on your honeymoon, or staying at one lodge for a long time. That’s why you should talk to one of our Tanzania experts. They will be happy to tell you about the deals and make sure you get the camp that works best for you.
