Chole Mjini | Mafia Island, Tanzania
Chole Mjini | Mafia Island, Tanzania. Not everyone should stay at this lodge. In its own weird way, it does work for the right person. This is not a business trying to make money; it’s an eco-friendly tourist project.
What We Know About Chole Mjini Afrika Afrika runs it. They are the ones who make many eco- and community-friendly projects happen in Tanzania. They are meant to be there, but Chole Mjini is definitely for the simple, wild, and “out there” traveler. Feel free to check this place out if you don’t mind long lines for the bathroom.
Chole is a small island next to Mafia. A 20-minute flight from Dar es Salaam, a 45-minute drive, and a short boat ride get you to Chole Bay.
This lodge’s goal is to be good to the community and the world. The main parts are all made from as many natural materials as possible so that they have as little effect on the environment as possible. The bar, restaurant, and top deck are all made of wood, except for the huge concrete floor. There are some chairs in the shape of concrete that have big cushions on them.
Your choice of whether or not to like Chole will depend on these places. There is one house on the ground and seven in the trees. The rooms aren’t the biggest, but they’re made of beautiful wood and have a big bed that takes up most of the space. The bathrooms are very simple, with long drop toilets that don’t flush. This is all done to be more eco-friendly.
Chole can swim and dive in some great spots in the area, and it’s also a great place to dive with whale sharks. It doesn’t have a good beach, but there is a long, white-sand spit you can go to if you need to be on the beach. The Mjini isn’t a place that many honeymooners in Tanzania go.
