This camp is in the northeast of Zanzibar, not far from Stone Town. It takes about an hour to drive there from Dar es Salaam, which is only a 20-minute flight away. The camp is in a place that makes it easy to get to the Mnemba Atoll.

Matemwe Bungalows is made up of 12 thatched and whitewashed bungalows that are spread out over a grassy area with a quiet, pale sand beach. Flower-covered paths lead to an open restaurant. The restaurant has a unique and varied menu and comes highly praised as one of the best on the island. A second beach faces south and has views of the Indian Ocean. This is where kids play and fishers come and go with the tides.

The rooms have a rustic feel to them, but they also have a sense of quality and high standards. Their hand-crafted elegance is increased by the fact that the beds are built on a raised plinth so that you can enjoy the views of the ocean. Each room is completely separate from the others, and the bathrooms are huge and have beautiful Persian baths. On the porch, each person has their own bed.

You can go snorkeling, kitesurfing, diving, sailing in traditional nglawa outriggers, and fishing for big game. You can also go on reef walks in front of the cottages, rent bikes, and go on day trips with picnics. A wonderful spot for newlyweds.
