Sand Rivers Selous

Sand Rivers Selous

Sand Rivers Selous. What We Think. Living barefoot in style, Sand Rivers is a luxurious lodge in a beautiful, wildlife-rich part of Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve). There are many great things about this camp in Tanzania, but this is our favorite. It’s great for people who want to have an adventure in the wild, with lots of walking safaris, great fly camping, and boating up to Steiglers Gorge. It is one of the oldest cabins and was built in the 1980s by Richard Bonham. It is thought to be one of the best places to be on the Rufiji River.

What You Need to Know About Sand Rivers

Sand Rivers is farther west than a lot of the other places in Nyerere National Park. The area might be the best for seeing wildlife, and guests can easily go on a boat safari up to Steiglers Gorge. They can also go on walking safaris and enjoy fly camping for a truly diverse safari experience. The camp is set up in a beautiful way along the Rufiji River, in the shade of trees and with a view of the hippos that live there.

The main part of the house is up high, so you can see the river very clearly. The eating and bar area is open on three sides and has a thatched roof and stone floors, just like the rooms. To the side, there is a communal pool where you can relax between activities.

The five cabins are spread out along the banks of the river. They have a very open feel to them and have bathrooms with outdoor showers and beds with mosquito nets. The rooms are open, so they’re good for people who like to try new things.

But they still have the comfort that comes with staying at a Nomad property. The open front of the rooms gives you a unique view of the Rufiji River while still making you feel close and private. The three hill-side rooms are the next level up. They are located higher up the hill and are bigger, plus they have their own private plunge pool.

The wild and raw feel of Sand Rivers and the South of Tanzania as a whole is what we love about them. Wildlife sightings don’t have a lot of people or long lines. Instead, they are private and personal, and the real spirit of safari is kept alive. On game drives here, you can often see wild dogs, so if seeing them is on your list of things to do, Sand Rivers is the place to go.
